Summary: To defeat the darkness, she must first embrace it. Months have passed since Juliet Moreau returned to civilization after escaping her father's island—and the secrets she left behind. Now, back in London once more, she is rebuilding the life she once knew and trying to forget Dr. Moreau’s horrific legacy—though someone, or something, hasn’t forgotten her.

As people close to Juliet fall victim one by one to a murderer who leaves a macabre calling card of three clawlike slashes, Juliet fears one of her father’s creations may have also escaped the island. She is determined to find the killer before Scotland Yard does, though it means awakening sides of herself she had thought long banished, and facing loves from her past she never expected to see again.

As Juliet strives to stop a killer while searching for a serum to cure her own worsening illness, she finds herself once more in the midst of a world of scandal and danger. Her heart torn in two, past bubbling to the surface, life threatened by an obsessive killer—Juliet will be lucky to escape alive.

With inspiration from Robert Louis Stevenson’s The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, this is a tantalizing mystery about the hidden natures of those we love and how far we’ll go to save them from themselves.

Review: Juliet is back home in London now and has tried to forget all about the island. She's traded the jungle for industrial city life, which in some ways is even more dangerous. It's been months since she returned to London and she's starting her life over again but is she really safe?

While not as shocking and surprising ad The Madman's Daughter, Her Dark Curiosity continues the Gothic thriller series and brings twists to the plot.

After Juliet returned to London she had to resume her normal life again, she moves into the professor's house which makes her part of high class society. She slowly Juliet must learns to adjust back to social life in the city. After her father was shunned from society for his experiments Juliet was also shunned and was no longer high class, she worked as a servant. She learns to adjust back to being high class. Just as Juliet starts to make herself at home again, a murderer shows up and kills people just as a beast with claws would. SHe begins to wonder if the island is completely behind her as she thinks about it every day.

Juliet tries to find the beast and stop it because if it is one of her fathers creations from the island, if Scotland Yard gets a hold of it they will dissect it. She wants the atrocities her father created to never be created again.

Through all of this she is also looking for a cure for herself. The serum she usually takes is not being as effective as it used to be. She must find a new cure for herself. If the serum stops working completely she will die.

It's a book about survival and learning to make the right decision in a world where everything is gray and blurred. Juliet must decide whether she wants to follow her natural instincts or what she's been taught in London.

Her Dark Curiosity focused more on the love triangle aspect of the story and how Juliet had to choose her decisions based on how she felt about Edward and Montgomery.

  1. I've been really intrigued by this book ever since I saw a wonderful review of it last year, but I can't find a copy of it in my country. *Sigh* Oh well, great review! :)
